Q: How do I care for and use Exquisite Design Molds?
Answer:

1. Casting Temperature: Our Exquisite Design soap molds have been successfully tested with glycerin temperatures of up to 180 °F with the Polystyrene, and 170 °F with the Vivak, without warping. However, it is recommended to pour the soap base at least 10 - 20 °F lower than these temperatures, or as low as possible, which will increase the mold’s working life.

To avoid warping: It is important when casting MP glycerin soap into plastic molds, to use a stainless steel thermometer, e.g., a candy or meat thermometer, to ensure that your soap temperature is below the maximum recommended casting temperature and decreasing.

2. Pouring & Unmolding: Our one-part molds are designed to cast your soap at any depth, up to the maximum stated weight. This versatility allows you to pour whatever weight of bar you need at the time.

When the soap is ready to release, place the mold on a flat surface with the cavities facing down, and press down steadily on the center of the top of the cavities. This will push the soap out of the mold, due to the extra space left for travel. This method is very easy on the mold due to the amount of full support that it has against the flat surface, and will extend your molds working life. Also, if it is stuck, and you have the extra space, you can lightly rap the mold squarely against a flat surface with the cavities facing down, repeatedly, until the cast is released from the mold. This method has a lot of force behind it and should release even the most stubborn soaps.

· If you are casting melt and pour soap, it is recommended to leave the soap in the mold for approx. 4 hrs. prior to unmolding it at room temperature. Also, you may place the molds with the soap in the freezer for approx. 30 minutes to 1 hour. After removing it, let it set for 5-10 minutes, then unmold the soap as mentioned above. This technique will usually make the soap much easier to unmold, and in a fraction of the time.

· If you are casting cold processed or hot processed soap, it is recommended to let the soap stay in the molds for as long as necessary (usually 18 - 24 hrs, but even several days if necessary), until the soap has sufficiently solidified. Then unmold the soap as mentioned above. If the soap sticks to the mold, using a mold release, such as a thin layer of vaseline or vegetable oil, may aid in the release of these types of soap.

Always avoid excessive force when unmolding your soap. If the soap will not unmold easily, it is recommended to keep waiting. In time, most soap will unmold easily.

Cleaning the Molds: Usually rinsing the molds in warm water is all that is necessary. You may also wash the molds in warm soapy water, if necessary, to remove any leftover oils and/or soap residue.
